Institutions
Creating and maintaining institutions is a major part of my work and currently my only means of support. Working in this way began with a youthful rejection of many of the institutions and structures I found myself in. I was inspired to act by hope that it was possible to be a part of more dynamic organizations of people, than I was finding around me. Most of these projects began as experiments but quickly they began filling real needs in mine and others’ lives. By creating value in this way the experimental projects became institutions that I and others have endeavored to continue.
Each project is united by the belief that it is only structures that define the values of an organization of people. With this each project is a proposition of a way of acting and being with people, of sustaining growth and change, and finding value.
The Big Parade was the first of these projects which began in 2001 .
Workshop Houston began in 2003 .
The Shrimp Boat Project began in 2005 .
